Foodbank usage rises over 50% in Alton – Help needed

15th August 2019

In the four months from April – July 2019, Alton foodbank has provided a balanced, three day supply of food to 134 families feeding over 350 people. This represents an increase of over 50% on the same period last year and the trend is continuing in August particularly as families who would normally receive free school meals struggle during the summer holiday.
All the families who come to the foodbank have been referred by agencies who know the families circumstances and feel they need help from the foodbank at this time. Agencies referring to the foodbank recently include schools, doctors, debt agencies, housing associations, the CAB, women’s refuge and the Job Centre Plus. Based on the size of the family, the foodbank will put together a food supply (based on a list put together by the Trussell Trust) that aims to provide enough food for at least 10 meals that are as nutritionally balanced as possible.

To continue to supply food to those in need we need the support of food donations and maintain on this website an up to date list of all the items that we are short of. If you go to the Give Help section and click on Donate Food a list of everything we are short of and where to donate is available
