December is always a busy month in the food bank. Not only do we distribute extra food parcels containing Christmas items, but we often see schools referring families whose children normally receive free school meals but have to cope without them during the school holidays. Thankfully we have been supported by lots of the local schools such as Eggars, Amery Hill and the Alton School all who have organised collections. Unfortunately demand continues to increase and we receive referrals from Citizens Advice, Job Centre Plus, schools, churches, housing associations, doctors and community mental health teams. Thankfully, the residents of Alton continue to give generously and we have been able to meet demand.
